Suit Rollor for Rollor

Product design for an innovative garment bag

The Suit Rollor was developed as a new way to carry a suit or formal clothing without creasing. Invented by Teun van der Laan, founder of Rollor Technology, the concept offered a smarter alternative to the traditional garment bag.

Instead of folding clothes flat, the Rollor uses a cylindrical rolling principle. This simple but powerful idea became the starting point for a product that had to feel intuitive, distinctive and ready for daily use.

Turning an invention into a product

Joanna Boothman helped translate the original idea into an iconic and manufacturable industrial design. The challenge was to make the product easy to understand, elegant to use and suitable for production.

The work moved from early concept development and prototype building to technical detailing, material and texture research, supplier contact and production preparation. Every part of the product had to support the same idea: protecting formal clothing in a compact, practical and recognisable way.

Details that explain the use

Because the Rollor introduced a new way of carrying garments, the product also needed to explain itself. Signature design details were developed to make the use clear and to strengthen the overall identity of the product.

The user instructions were based on a free-hand sketch, giving a practical necessity a more human and fluid character. A Style Guide was also created to define the product identity, form language and design principles for future Rollor products.

What we did

Joanna Boothman worked on the concept development and helped turn the Suit Rollor from an innovative idea into a complete product design.

We researched new textures, materials and product details, and developed the technical construction needed to make the product manufacturable and reliable in use.

Our role included prototype building, design refinement, supplier collaboration and realisation. We also created a Style Guide to define the Rollor product language and support future product development.
