Quantified climate sensors
Quantified Climate Sensors was the first product for Quantified Technology. A new brand that develops sensor technologies for various applications, providing expertise in data collection and visualization for the professional market. A main application is in agri- and horticulture to monitor and maintain optimal moisture and light conditions for plant growth.
To emphasize their brand values we created the FireFly, a characteristic design that catches the eyes of their prospects, on the table and out in the field.
Keeping in mind that these sensors are used amongst plants and animals, our inspiration came from the garden. To work, arrays of sensors are placed in strategic locations through fields and in greenhouses. In this way, we imagined the sensors as living organisms themselves, busy at work, sensing and taking care of plant life.
We gave the climate sensors a friendly shape with details reminiscent of insects and leaves. Working with translucent materials and cleverly detailed 3D printed elements gives the sensors a gentle yet futuristic look. The 3D printed elements have a technical function as well as provide possibilities for future customization using patterns and colour. We also designed a multi-functional mounting clip for easily positioning the sensors in a variety of situations. In this project we worked closely with software & hardware designers from Quantified to achieve our goal.
Clear design solutions
Coming from a background in aeronautical engineering we love simple and effective design solutions. For the Quantified climate sensors we designed a smart clip to easily mount the sensors to the existing cables and rods commonly used in agricultural applications. The solution was found in a specially designed clip which holds the sensor by friction.
